Out of Slumber

Reawakening to a new day
Recommitting ourselves to light
As leaves and petals soak in
rays of the shining sun

Reclaiming another season
of vibrant greens and blooms
As hope and faith renews
Out of slumber, revived

It’s been a year since we moved to this apartment here in Austin. The plum tree by our balcony, along with tall cedar trees convinced us right away that it was the place for us. To celebrate the day, we had lunch at our favorite Vietnamese restaurant, Pho Thaison at Southpark Meadows. After that, we went to the pond nearby to watch the ducks.

Today, I spent most of my time just birdwatching from our balcony. The local doves and sparrows were hanging out and relaxing in their favorite branches. It’s mostly the birds & bees.. in the plum tree. :)

How sweet the nectar of these plum blooms, drawing the bees to savor! Beautiful environment!

Are you sure nothing can lure you back to NorCal?

Love the poem. It’s so good to see you back into poetry. Your poem captures the sense of rebirth that a new Spring gives. While reading it, I can smell the fresh and growing air of Spring.

The upended ducks are super-cute. I’m amazed at the shots you got of the bees in the flowers. Nice going!

“Recommitting ourselves to light” really struck me. We do that, I guess, every morning. A celebration! Your house sparrow looks just like the ones that sit in the tree outside my balcony. Beautiful photographs!
